How to Maintain your Dishwasher

A dishwasher is one of the most convenient appliances in any home, but regular maintenance is essential to keep it running efficiently. With a few simple steps, you can extend its lifespan and ensure your dishes come out sparkling clean every time.

Start by cleaning the filter regularly. Food particles can accumulate in the filter, causing unpleasant odors and reducing cleaning performance. Remove the filter according to the manufacturer’s instructions and rinse it under warm water.

Next, inspect and clean the spray arms. Over time, small bits of food and mineral deposits can clog the holes, preventing water from reaching your dishes effectively. Use a toothpick or soft brush to clear any blockages.

It’s also important to wipe down the door seals and edges. These areas can collect grease, dirt, and moisture, which may lead to mold growth. A damp cloth and mild detergent are usually enough to keep them clean.

Once a month, run an empty hot-water cycle with a dishwasher cleaner or a cup of white vinegar placed on the top rack. This helps remove limescale, grease, and odors from the interior.

Finally, avoid overloading the dishwasher and scrape excess food from dishes before loading them. Proper loading allows water to circulate freely and improves cleaning results.

By following these simple maintenance tips, you can keep your dishwasher operating efficiently, reduce repair costs, and enjoy clean dishes for years to come.
